The Ball Field Battle

Some of you may remember the little boy I told you about that called me out and challenged me to a race. I would link to the topic but I can't find it.  Well tonight was the night. The Ball Field Battle went down and we have a winner.

I grabbed my wood ramp today and stuck it in the van along with some track. I grabbed some loose cars that I didn't mind losing. I had a feeling that most of the cars would go home with the kids and I was correct.

There is a covered pavilion next to the field that my youngest son practices on. I got there a little early and had my oldest help me set up.

Next we laid out my cars on the left of the track.

Then we laid out my competitor's cars on the right.

Now at this point, you may be able to tell from the picture that my competitor was not going to be playing fair today. It looks like my competitor went out and brought in a ringer to build him a few cars. Our very own Smitty was awesome enough to not only build him a couple of his special cars, he also sent along some other cars for him to open.

After getting set up, we waited on my competitor to arrive. After he showed up (he was running a little late because of a nap), I let him decide which cars were going to race. I lined up his cars and then let him pick from my cars to see which cars would be going up against each other.

The next picture is all of the winners on the left side of the track across from the losers on the right side of the track.

Turns out 4 of his cars advanced and 4 of my cars advanced to the next round. I let my competitor pair up the cars for the next round. His sister decided her car needed to be in the picture also.

Here are the results from the second round.Winners on the bottom and losers on the top.

His sister and her friend added the two cars on the far right of the picture. At this point, he still had two cars in and I had two cars in. Somewhere I lost a picture of who raced who at this point but needless to say, I did not make the finals. Here is a picture of the two cars in the finals.

Let's just say that these two cars were very fast but as we all know, there can only be one true winner. Here is a very short video of the finals.

I think he was rubbing it in here.

The Vega was the winner. Nothing could touch it this evening. It was dialed in. After the race, I cut the kids loose. They raced for another hour. My competitor's dad was just as excited as the kids I believe. He kept picking out cars to race. He made the comment that he could see spending a lot of money trying to find fast cars.

My apologies to Smitty (meant to get a picture) but he not only sent the cars for my competitor, he also sent a box with a starter, a table top stand for the starter, a bunch of track and two U-turns. He also sent a finish line and a loop de loop (not sure what you call it). My competitor was very excited about the gift Smitty. He told me to tell you thank you very much.

All in all, The Ball Field Battle was a great race even though I came out on the short end this time.

Awesome story!  Nice job by you talking on that little rascal and making it such a fun time for all.  Hats off to Smitty for his generous contribution!  This is what makes this hobby so great!
