Yup, I"d be kinda bummed if the car I sent in was damaged due to that kind of drop. Especially if it was an open wheel car.

These are serious concerns for anyone who sent a car in! As seen in some of the videos that was quite a thud when the cars hit the box after dropping down from the finish.
Hopefully future hosts of any series will have a more 'car-friendly' way of stopping the cars after the finish. Some suggestions can be found here: http://www.redlinederby.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=873. I wouldn't be surprised if more suggestions are offered.
... I.M.O....crashing cars won't keep your brackets full !.......has been lots of catchbox chatter here on RDR.
i see lots of thought and labor in your track, apply that to the catchbox !... go hammer go....
On the topic of 'open track' catch boxes, there's something else everyone should be aware of. 'OT' racing is obviously a 'contact sport' since there are no sidewalls or barriers separating the cars while they're racing. Even if 2 cars never make contact with one another winning car that takes the brunt of the "abuse" since its basically a sitting duck once it hits the box. Should NerveHammerFTE improve his stopping system?...yes, but there are no guarantees that adding a stopping device on this type of track would completely eliminate the chances for damaged entries.

That doesn't sound good...I'll have to look at it through my computer.
As for a drop-off catchbox, a thick blanket, like the one WorpeX has, in a box, should be fine for the cars, I would think--as long as they go into it and don't hit the floor instead.
