Thinking of hosting a rip n race in early July

Howdy All!

I've been rolling an idea around for a simple rip and race for early July. July being far enough out, that I could still work on cars, both to race and show, finish my track, and prep for the race. As I have very limited time for one, let alone all four activities one top of each other.

Having said this, I want to contribute as much as possible in as many ways possible.

This is my idea...

Rip and roll with a twist.

OLD SCHOOL!!

My track is simple. Has vintage yellow 2 lane button in the middle starting gate. Simple vintage gravity flag drop finish line. About a 3 foot drop over 7 feet with about 10 ( might be made into 15 feet) roll out.

Pretty rough, but nice enough I think.

Cars:

ANY HOT WHEEL from a case between June 1994  and June 2001.

Any series, new release or theme, t-hunt... Whatever was on the pegs during those 6 years.

The car/truck itself, has to be a real model, from a real maker that might have rolled out the factory door 1900-1985 and onto a showroom floor. No, nascar/Indy, no fantasy, no farm or construction equipment, blimps, lean machines,  etc.

However, it can be slightly tweaked/customized from Mattel, but not heavily modified.

Basically, a stock simple car.

I feel these can be found cheap enough, through flea markets, club meets, Bernie's, Epay... Almost anywhere.

Wheels: ANY STOCK WHEEL on a stock car in a sealed blister. They had a BUNCH of wheels out during that era.

I know, I said Old School...  And this might not fit most everyone's definition of "Old School"... But to me, anything released prior to '95 on a blue card is a whole different era. I guess, the beginning of the " Modern Era" is around '95ish.

By old school, I mean...

Stock cars, on a roughly built track, much like a youngster might have built around that time. Simple, crude even, but effective and fit the bill.

Terms:

Winner takes all. ( another reason for the general, carded racers. I am thinking there will be a lot of muscle cars, fat fenders, trucks etc competing.)

4 entries per household, send $.50 per entry and 1 (designated with a postit) prize car from any maker any era. To cover shipping the loot to the winner. (any money left over after shipping costs are calculated, will be added to the bounty)

If we do in fact, make this an official race, I would only ask that you commit, and send your entries asap. So, as they arrive, I can label the cars, assign numbers and photograph them as they come in.

I will only be able to do this, by taking the entries out on the truck with me, and prepareing/ photographing them on the dashboard, making the brackets etc, when I have some down time.

Numbered/photographed as they come in. With a deadline cut off 2 weeks prior to the third full weekend in July.( to make the brackets and photo them together)

Numbers will be drawn from a hat to make the brackets.

( my Wife will be joining me on the truck for a large part of June as we do every year. Sooooo, the earlier they arrive, the better. She gets my full attention as much as possible during this time. Naturally!!)

What do you think?  Any takers??

( The Trkr household will compete with 4 cars, but, should we win, the next top winner becomes the VICTOR!!

( I have thought a lot about this, and feel I have covered all the bases pretty well.)

I'll send some cars in for this one...assuming I have some pre-95 in my stash, I should.

What's the actual deadline date for getting entries to you? I'll add the date to your post and the race calendar.

It's more in the stages of tossing the idea around. I haven't totally decided just yet. We've got time to discuss, since there is no actual building involved. Lol

( from 1995-2001) and the cars should be pre 1985 factory model years. Puts a little spin on it I think.)

Cool...tricky. I like it! I think that I have a 5-pack that will fit the bill...4 racers and a prize car!

Nail down the date and I'm in!

  • I am surprised I didn't think about 5 packs. GREAT IDEA CHRIS! — CrzyTrkrDude
  • that just might change everything!! a 4 of 5 with 1 prize car race! BRILLIANT!! — CrzyTrkrDude
  • A 5-pack is easier to come up with than 4 early '90's new cars :) — 72_Chevy_C10
  • anything but junk stuff built for the track. Real Cars. might be a cool race theme for later — CrzyTrkrDude
  • the late 90's stuff was produced my the Brazzilions and as all over the place. — CrzyTrkrDude
