I bought a bunch of Johnny Lightnings around 2001-02 and they're all pretty heavy beasts.

Yes, I have several of the "Playing Mantis" ones from the mid 90's. They're all pretty heavy. When I look at the current ones at Wal Mart...they just seem a bit overpriced to me.

i had a fat fendered '40 weighing in at over 55 Gs... dropped it onto a trimmed dairy delivery base, and an hour with a burrbitt and i got JENNY CRAIG down to a dainty 25 Gs... you can do it ! ... cut the johnny...

WOAH, just weighed one of these suckers. No way that i'm going to get these guys to shed 10g for this. Tough weight class. :/

I'm pretty sure the thinking behind the 40-45 grams was so that the guys with no Johnny Lightning cars wouldn't be at a disadvantage. The newer offerings, although a bit pricey, have a plastic chassis.

I wanted to post our track rules for this Top Sportsman Series that will start in September! I dont know alot about this new type of racing as we race all STOCK classes with no oil or graphite allowed adding weight and so on. For this series you can use any dry lubricants or graphite on the axles. Also another rule we use and it will count for the Top Sportsman series if your car comes off our track it's done. We race in between 3 and 400 cars per meeting and we dont have time to be running races over again if the car falls off the track. I also want to make it clear on the weight they have to be 45 grams and it also has to be a Johnny Lightning body the chassis can be another brand along with wheels and axles. Going back to cars falling off our track it does'nt happen all the time once in awhile depending on the casting they can fly off but it's not every month it happens just so you all understand. One more note we are running single elimination meaning if you lose in the first round you are out thats what we run with all our classes. I hope everyone is on the same page we just need to work out the dates our September meeting is on the 9th which is the second Sunday. I did forget to mention this will be a two car team series. Please feel free to contact me @ 401-248-1625

That all makes sense to me.

does that leave the Sportsman class's LIVING ROOM hosts the option of running 2 outta 3 if they are only hosting our current series ? say 16 or 32 or 64 cars ?...
. hip with the single eliminations format.... better for the L.R. hosts if we can have the option to run 2 outta 3 ...
.... but it's the johnnies' call...

I'm confused (nothing new ), is this a RACE or a SERIES? I'm cool either way, just wondering.

. . . I also want to make it clear on the weight they have to be 45 grams . . .

Just to be crystal clear here, all cars must weigh 45 grams?

I'm cool with everything he said, even the 45 gram thing!

now i'm reconfused...
page 1, first comment, this topic, ljlrc want to start a TOP SPORTSMAN CLASS series... ? ? ?

Well, in the other thread where the Gassers raced at the Lincoln Johnny Lightning Club, johnnl says this-

We would be glad to continue hosting these special races on our track! Also I am creating a new race and I am shooting to start it up sometime in September. This will be a Johnny Lightning body with Hot Wheels axles and wheels allowed and the weight would have to be 45 grams. I would like to call it a Sportsman Class!!!

I interpret it to say. If we (Redline Derby Forum people) have another series, a Featherweight Series II, or Gassers Series II, for example, they would be happy to be a host track as part of that series.

The second part says they (they Johnny Lightning club) are going to have a Sportsman race in September and we can enter.

...or it could also be a series.
