Track Conditioning

iowastockcars Wednesday, 2/5/2014

I had started to wipe my track pieces down with used dryer sheets to try to avoid stray dog hairs from finding their way onto and staying on the track. I then realized I was probably causing more problems by doing it that way as I noticed it kept getting worse.

I took a little furniture polish to each track piece and then let it dry. Much better with the dog hair and it really seemed to kick up the speed of the tracks.

It got me thinking, does anyone do anything to their tracks to "condition" their track pieces to maintain the speed or actually increase the speed with a certain cleaning process?

I just use a wadded-up paper towel soaked in water and a little elbow grease to clean dust off.

Vacuum and a microfiber towel are what I use.

Vacuum, and wipe down with Windex...

I put a homemade wipe cloth holder on the front of my track service truck and run it a few times and the track is all clean....... ..............joke or good idea or both?............mind wandering again......

Every now and then I will use a alcohol sanitizing towel (Kirkland brand) to get any dust & dirt off the surface.

Before each race I always wipe mine down with Clorox wipes. It gets up a ton of dirt and dog hairs, haven't noticed it affecting the cars or speed. Never thought about waxing the track though, not a bad idea.
