Track differences and sourcing

Hello, I'm looking to build a 4 lane track setup about 13ft long. I already have my maker bot starting gate and finish gate but I'm looking to match some track I already have which is 20 3/4" long with a high 3/8" side wall. I picked up a few strips of this track individually with clear joiners at Toys R Us years ago and am unable to find more. Who sells these longer track sections and why did they increase the sidewall from the vintage track that only has 1/4" sidewall?

TRU is the only place where I've been able to find those long pieces of "high wall" orange track. I think the taller sidewalls were originally used on table top stunt sets since they do help keep the cars from flying off when exiting curves, jumps, ect..

  • thanks, I should have bought a bunch when they were available — evlwevl

i have never noticed a difference between the clear and purple connectors...

i think 3dbot makes connectors that pinch the trailing end of each section eliminating the interference at each union... work good... i did a "how to" on those years back...

i like drag tracks "track" 20" x 3.5"  factory tapered to be narrower at the tail ends.. no hang ups... from your starter / finishline to DT the adaptors aren't that big a deal... [4] sections called track packs for between $16 and $20 ... they pack up and travel well in a suitcase...

  • Those Drag Tracks are nice but thats going to get expensive really quick with 4 lanes — evlwevl
  • I have never once seen where you can buy drag tracks by themselves, do you have a link? — gtaman
  • I have the whole setup with gates etc, just never track by itself — gtaman
  • Summit racing and genuine hot rod parts both have them... — fordman
  • Jegs also has track by itself http://www.jegs.com//v/Dragtracks/330 — Diecast64
