What material are wheels made of?

Does anyone have an idea or a link for what Mattel uses to make the wheels on the cars? Interested to know what sort of plastic it is.

From what I remember, the only time that Mattel has revealed thier choice of wheel material was in the 2012 Team HW High Speed Wheel series. They described those colored wheels as 'acetal plastic' which is basically Delrin, a dense, self-lubricating material. They rolled on NPAs but had a rather tight axle tolerance so most cars required an extensive break-in period before they would perform well.
- Thank you for the information. — Chipped_Paint_Racing
- I have wonder about anealing wheels to get round and square. the molds are all the same, maybe it's only the cooling that warps them — dr_dodge
- Thanks. That was great to see and we got further confirmation on Derlin. — Chipped_Paint_Racing
- y'all know Hot wheels patents everything? just sayin...lol — dr_dodge
- If I had a lathe I'd build my make my own wheels, patent be damned lol. — Chipped_Paint_Racing
- @Chipped: It's not like HW is going to come after a lone guy building wheels in his garage for modified racing on a track that HW doesn't care about, anyway .... — SpyDude
- the patents usually specify the materials used, usually...lol — dr_dodge
This is what we need Mattel to sell us...

- or a racer to make better ones — dr_dodge

I believe it is a polycarbonite blend... imho the clear/colored wheels are slightly harder than the black wheels and are better performers.
