Whoa...I found my childhood HW cars...

72_Chevy_C10 Saturday, 3/30/2019

Hey Guys,

I'm not, really, much of a collector...I had a bunch of Hot Wheels cars when I was a kid...and, over the last year or so, I've been picking up the occasional car on ebay from my childhood. Well, I guess I don't have to do that any more.

I was putting some engine parts up on the shelves in the rafters of my Mom's pole barn today...and I saw this...

And it was FULL of my old cars! I'm not sure when these cars were put in this box...some time in the '90's, by the looks of it. There are a fair amount of cars from the 90's in there (I got into collecting around then), but, my original cars were in there as well.

I sorted through and pulled a bunch of original redlines and blackwalls out of the bigger box and I'll be going over them for a while.

These two, Larry's Towing and Second Wind were two of my favorites...as you can see by the condition. I loved these cars.

I could only find this Sweet Sixteen car...a Custom Mustang that I painted white (it was a red car, so it's a fairly pricey car). But, there should be a Custom Cougar in there too....but, I didn't see it today.

This was such a cool find for me...what a trip down memory lane. I might just have to do some racing with these old cars before the track comes down.

Here are the ones I pulled out of the larger box...I've just been sitting, staring at them. It's so cool to see the little details...instant memories from childhood...so cool

  • The Mighty Maverick, Heavy Chevy, the '57 Chevys and Roger Dogers...was so happy to see them again :) — 72_Chevy_C10
  • Out of your entire collection, I had about two-thirds of the same ones. Sadly, all mine plus a lot of my slot cars were either lost or stolen when I moved out of state. — SpyDude

What a super cool story! Hours of nostalgia coming your way now. Enjoy it.
My old Matchbox and Corgi models from childhood are, alas, long gone, never to be seen again. I got rid when I left "home" and got married. I soooo wish I hadn't done that now. Isn't hindsight wonderful!

That's awesome! Wish my Hot Wheels had survived my childhood. I only have a few here and there but the rest gave up the ghost to firecrackers, mud pits and rocks. No regrets though.

Love the Stage Fright. I remember having several of them and loved that casting. The Old #5 too.

Your so lucky! My mom sucks :( she didn’t save any of my old cars. Can I come over and play?

I hope my boys will remember one or two great toys that they can never put down when they get to be an old fart like their Dad. So.......... which one is the fastest?!

  • I'll have to race them to see how they have held up in a box for the last 20+ years — 72_Chevy_C10

Very Very Very Cool!!

still have my cars from wayback, including 13 of the sweet 16. Sooooo I bought the other 3 on EBay.

Thanks for the responses, guys! It was really amazing to find those cars. I'll have to race them and post the video...I have no idea what car would be the fastest :)

I know it's probably been keeping you awake a night, not knowing which car was the fastest of my childhood cars. Well, know you can rest well.

The above pic is of the top 4. I was kinda surprised at the winner, but 2-4 weren't, reall, a surprise. I can remember the Larry's Towing (the fastest Redline) and the '57 Chevy doing battle many years ago.

Sorry for not filming the race...I just wanted to see who would come out on top, so I just didn't take the time to shoot it.

Thanks again for the responses  :)

  • Awesome, good to see they've still got it — Chaos_Canyon
  • Check the tow truck. Supposedly, if it's one of the older ones, it actually has Larry Woods' real phone number on the side - if you call it, the phone on his desk actually rings! Larry was passing out the trucks to people instead of using business cards. — SpyDude

That's so cool. I recently found a few of mine, still hoping to find some more when i can go see my parents again too.

Stupid me gave all mine to the neighbor kid. Later when I started seeing pricing I kicked myself several times.  Had all the chromies, several reclines and a whole bunch of blackwalls as the 70's and 80's is when I was getting them. My favorite though was my tomica blue Lincoln continental.  That was always my car when playing.

I'm always surprised to see my old posts re-surface :) I was lucky to come across that box...I had collected quite a bit in the '90's and I think I just opened everything to save space, and I put them in that box. ..and, at some point, I had put my original childhood cars in there as well. I didn't remember combining all the cars, so when I found my original cars in there, it was such a cool surprise...I thought that they were gone :)
