Dry Lubes

I originally purchased some dry graphite lube from my LHS for my FC entries, but I'm finding myself using it on faster, significantly kicked up the performance of a few of my mediocre performers, and its even given new life to a few cars from my "dud" box. Obviously, its affects are not permanent, but they certainly seem to last long enough for an afternoon of racing. The downside?...my orange track now has the obligatory grey stripes running parallel with the sidewalls, but at least they clean off easily w/Windex.

Does anyone else use this stuff or have another brand to recommend?

Same stuff I use, and yes it really does work.

Not sure if it hurts anything in the long run, can't imagine that it does.
It does leave a mess on my orange track though, have to clean it from time to time.

when i can remove the axles, after application and pre-spin, i wipe all the graffite off the axle, i spin, wipe, spin, wipe, etc... when you can't see any black on the paper towel, you got it just rite... you don't want the axle to have to plow or swim [oils] through the lube..
it should pack into the imperfections between axle and wheel...should last longer too

Thanks for the replies. The graphite lube I've been using also contains molybdenum, which I suspect is in the form of molydenum disulfide(MoS2)...an inexpensive powdered lubricant commonly used my marksman to coat bullets with for improved muzzle velocity & accuracy. MoS2 tends to "stick" to metal surfaces, fills in microscopic imperfections, and provides a slippery barrier that usually stays attached to the surface until it is ultimately worn away by friction.

I've been having a bit of fun on the open track coarse racing some 'lubricated' mainlines against some 'non-lubricated' FTEs. Most of my FTEs would normally 'that car is an open track monster. Anyway, graphite has added a whole new dimension to my racing...and that's a good thing!

This thread makes me nervous about the featherweight challenge now since I didn't use any dry lube on my cars.

I can tell you that my FC entries were the additional lubrication)...aside from normal track-side repairs for possible damages oncured during racing. Fair is fair...that's where I stand.

fred's "poison packid" should have had the front axle replaced... but not at my house..[fairplay]....i did my best to straighten it and all other racer's axles and raced them... if you anchor your axles with J.B.Weld, you or any race host can straighten the wheels fairly easily... IS IT SUNDAY YET ?

I only use graphite for the modified class at conventions.

Since I have been entering so many of my own races, I don't really build all out cars. I want them to be competitive, but I'd hate to run away with my own series.

I didn't have a lot of time for the featherweight cars, but did take the build seriously and even managed to get a couple test track runs. Would have loved to get more test time with them.

I'm just really happy to see a second traveling series out there.

ditto on the two series... and i think R.D.R threw out a closed wheel only comment... hmmm, close-out class
well i see 17 teams that might give it a shot.... it just needs a boss ! ...
