Featherweight Challenge Series II (California)

There was also a deadline for cars to arrive. With last calls going out right up until the very last minute and then some.
On the day on the race the commissioner Ok'ed the combination of Beach Bum Racing and R&S racing because there were 9 teams of 4 cars. By combining two teams were were able to make "perfect" brackets and get rid of any bye's. This also made the scoring easier.
I sent the cars out Monday morning to the next race stop. On Monday evening I got a package from Jason that I had no idea was coming. I had to work crazy hours Tuesday and Wednesday is a holiday. I can't even get his cars to the next race on time, so I'm gonna send them ahead to Smitty, the third track on a six race series.
You might as well throw them into the mix, I suppose it's up to the Comish, but just so you guys know, some sacrifices were made to bring the teams down to a 8 team bracket after last calls went out and a deadline had been set for quite a while.

The bottom line is if you want to keep points and do scoring you can't change midway through the series from Single elimination to double elimination.
There was discussion about changes anybody wanted to make from series one to series 2 and nobody brought this up. I myself didn't even think of it, I think because there were more cars in the first series... in between we had the Gasser Wars which were double elimination and I think people assumed, or whatever the Gassers were gonna be or could be.
At this point we can't change it mid series because it messes up the point system.
I'm for shuffeling the deck at each venu. As long as you don't have anyone running themselves in the first round, after that ya gotta go with the flow. Just like the big boys. Let the first round winners race a different car, that may alter the race from the last one. Will also make for much more interesting racing and keep the interest up for those who seem to keep racing the same car they keep loosing to in first round. I owned a Slot Car Raceway w/ a scale 1/4 mile Drag Strip. At times we had over 200 cars entered in a single Bracket Race with a 4 car per racer limit. If I didn't mix it up race to race I woulda lost most of the racers.
As for Single vs Double eliminations, single is easier for all to understand. Just my $.02
If all goes as planned and the USPS does its job, I should be receiving cars tomorrow or Friday. The first chance to race will probably be Sunday. I'll do single elimination and try to arrange the cars so they're not repeat races in the first round...sound good? I'll have to reread some old posts about scoring, or I'll just denote all the winners and let someone else calculate all the points. Then I'll do my best to ship them out Monday morning to Smitty.
Brian it's as simple as:
1) Split the cars in to two classes. FTE and Non-FTE.
2) Randomly match up the cars to race in pairs. Careful no one races themselves in the first round. (odds are you won't match them up the same as the previous race. If you want you could double check).
3) Try to get the cars in the mail in time so the next host can have them by the following weekend.

Cars arrived today from Cali. Might try to race Friday night, we'll see.
July 22nd should be very interesting seeing that is probably the HOTTEST month for our track being in the YMCA Pavilion. This will make for tough racing in all the classes like it has over the last few years in this bldg. As long as its a HOT day we will not see any records beat and it will also make for interesting racing in the Featherweight Series 2 race. Good Luck to all racers! Remember GO HARD OR GO HOME!
Well, there's only six stops in this series.
Redline Derby is doing single elimination, Lincoln Rhode Island is doing single elimination and I already did single elimination.
I personally don't think it matters if the other three tracks do the double eliminations unless it's just going to give a lot more points to the leaders... remember in the Gasser Wars Smittys' track had different result than were expected.
Personally I usually have the time. After I ran the Gassers for the official race on the 32 foot track, I ran them all again on the 22 foot track. I didn't post the results because they weren't much different and I didn't want to add any confusion.
The commissioner has told me on a couple different occasions (when I hosted races), "It's your race, run 'em how you want to".
Unless I'm sitting on the beach talking with Smitty, then maybe double eliminations next time.
