some newer wheel weights are not lead, grabbed a few on the ground at tire warehouse... steel.

A couple of hobby stores in my area sell lead weights in strips and they're segmented so you can break pieces off & each one is stamped with the amount of grams it weighs. I cut them into smaller pieces so I can tuck them into just about anywhere on the vehicle. And they cut easily with a little jeweler's or plumber's hacksaw. A little poster putty holds them in place and then a dab of epoxy or jb weld keeps em from breakn loose. If the car is a did then I can remove them and reuse them.

That's another reason I don't like using lead, because I just feel uneasy working with it.
I've got two more Fords to test. Had way more Mustangs than I had thought. Most are light weight and not very good runners though! Been hardest to find a late model version - currently working with the 08 Focus and some donated FTE 1s.
I use lead weight primarily, but have used BBs or steal shoot as well. Model train shops sell lead in strips. You can also go by a tire store and ask for some old wheel weights (usually they will give you a handful for free).
I am sure - if I tried - I could find some tungsten, but I have never ran across it around here otherwise!
You do need a balance though! As a heavier car can take longer to get up to speed and cant overcome the distance - as a lighter car is losing its momentum.
