Round 3 Pre-race: Gspeed3 ran a great race last week, doing what it needed to do to win one of these things: It ran up front, did not crash, as as a bonus actually passed the hard-charging Smittymobile! But it's success will now have it starting 8th. Worpex's off-track excursion and 5th place finish will have him starting 7th. He is in a good position to win tomorrow, with a few cars between him and Smitty (starting 10th). I acquired a first-place prize last week at Goodwill. A genuine Hotwheels Race Team ballcap! The races in this series are actually possible to call: There are three that don't have a chance, two that are in a class of their own, and "the pack". Worpex and Smitty slice through the piles of inverted dragsters within a few laps and the race is on. Worpex was in the lead by lap 3 then was replaced by Gspeed1. It was Gspeed1, Worpex and Smitty for 3 laps until Worpex took over for good on lap 7. It was Worpex, Gspeed1 and TLD for 2 laps. TLD crashed on lap 9 putting Smitty back in 3rd. Gspeed1 crashed on lap ten but that pesky Gspeed3 was further down the track than Smitty by a thread for 2nd. That thread could cost team Smitty big when the final points are tallied. Congrats to Worpex!
Something else. The three cars that don't have a chance are not last in points! Although in this race they occupied the last three positions for much of the race, when the checkered flag fell they were 8th, 6th and 4th! In points they are 9th, 8th, and 6th. The car I thought would be the best is last!

Smitty holds a 2-point lead over Worpex then Gspeed3 is 2 points back. Gspeed1 is next 3 points back and 5th is TLD a distant 6 points down. Every point is a finish position and vice-versa. Worpex will not have the 2-car cushion next week on the grid.
Round 4 of the Smitty/Worpex Battle tomorrow! I guess I should throw in the Gspeed3 car which keeps factoring in the final stages of these races. It's only 4-points out of 1st place, and like Smitty and Worpex, has not crashed although like Worpex, it has left the track. It also has passed Smitty, being the only car to do that besides TLD. But that exact car did not produce in the Fall race, never advancing out of C, whereas the other Gspeed cars finished in A (top ten out of 30). I don't think it will hang much longer. Meanwhile the car I thought would be on top, Gspeed2, is in last! Anyway Worpex will be starting right in front of Smitty tomorrow (9th and 10th) but they won't be back there long. Normally all the A cars are good and it's a 10-car battle but with only the one class the field is somewhat "diverse" performance wise. Some of these cars need replacing immediately!

And that's what happened here today. After pulling the track, which is mounted on a gurney, out from the wall to run todays event, I noticed it was next to a large pile of bicycle parts. My daughter is rebuilding some clunker bike. I had a spray can lid with a little chainsaw bar lube in it to oil some bike chains with a small paint brush. It had tipped leaving a 6 inch puddle of the sticky stuff in the pile. It looked like it would not be in my path so I left it.
The pole-sitting Gspeed2 led for 2 laps then Goolz Jr. for 3. Smitty got around Worpex on lap 5 and by lap 6 was in the lead. He led for 4 laps and was sitting pretty going into the last lap. However he flew off the track in turn 2 and landed wheels-down in the oilfield! I stopped to clean the goo of the Surfmobile. That set up overtime with Worpex in the lead. Then the same thing happened to Worpex! But he avoided the muck. TLD inherited the lead and repeated for the win. TLD was in last after 7 laps. But in the next 5 he was 5th, 4th, 2nd, 1st and 1st. Congrats TLD!
However due to a mixed field and overtime laps, Smitty was able to climb to 3rd and Worpex 4th. The 3 classes are starting to get a gap between them. Smitty holds a 3-point lead over Worpex, then a 6-point gap to the pack: Gspeed1, TLD, and Gspeed3. Last place is 25 points out of 1st place! Send replacements!
Couple things I forgot: I'll be adding a catch fence in turn 2 before round 5 even though I enjoy seeing the leaders struggle with this section. I might even roll the track onto a piece of carpet just in case of flight. Also I forgot to mention that Goolz Jr came in second. He was never farther back than 7th and even led a few laps. We might be seeing more of him. Also Fast Fred ran in 2nd for a couple laps, moving up from 9th after an early crash. He crashed again dropping to 9th but finished a respectable 6th. Gspeed3 struggled and finished 9th. He drops from 3rd in points to 5th, 10 points from 1st.

Retreat a few frames then hit SPLIT. Remove previous frame. Watch footage and at end of run hit SPLIT. Erase footage to before next start estimating car return time minus about 10 seconds. Repeat.
