http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jA4tz0uAlOk Textbook Predictability in Round 5 Mail-In: This looked like Worpex's day to shine as he was in the lead by lap 3 from his 9th-place start position. He had the necessary several cars between him and Smitty to erase Smitty's points lead. Too bad it's not a 3-lap race! He led for one more lap but was on his roof coming out of turn 3 but slid accross the finish in 2nd behind Gspeed1. I thought he would recapture the lead from the fast but erratic Gspeed car but couldn't and snagged the turn 3 inside wall 3 laps later falling to 4th. One of the cars that passed him was his nemesis Smitty. Smitty was in command by lap 9 and took the final lap for the win. Worpex was 2nd, Gspeed2 3rd, and Gspeed1 4th. Smitty's run to front went something like this: 7th, 4th, 5th, 5th, 4th, 4th, 5th, 3rd, 1st, and 1st. He increases his points lead over Worpex to 5. Congrats Smitty!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI0jbVDGdnw Smitty to the Rescue! I was about to declare Smitty champ after his win from 10th on the grid last week and mail him the hat. Even if his only real competition, Worpex, can eek out a win, Smitty is close behind due to not enough strong cars in this series to put some distance between the two. That was until this week when Smitty, who provided the cars for his penpals Fast Fred and Aussie, sent some cars to replace their struggling machines. Pole-sitting Fred's new car led the first 4 laps before fading and finishing 7th. Goolz Jr., starting 5th, inherited the lead on lap five and held on for the win. He crashed on the last lap and stalled just short of the finish but was hammered across by the pack of Worpex, Smitty and Aussie (see video). Worpex finished 2nd, Aussie 3rd, and Smitty 4th. Smitty now leads Worpex by only 3 points. A distant 3rd is Gspeed1, 18 points out of 1st. Congrats Goolz Jr.!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVfkEMB9Fcw Smitty Struggles, Points shaken up in Round 7: Round 7 in all future series and starting this week will be the "Camcar Round" with the rear-facing camcar at the front of the grid on every lap. If it gets passed it still starts up front. This race was not a pretty one as half the field crashed on lap one allowing TLD to take the lead from his 6th grid position. He crashed on the next lap (see video) and last weeks winner, Goolz Jr, took the lead. Smitty was in first by lap 3 with Worpex in 3rd. But Smitty crashed and dropped to 6th. Fast Fred took that lap. Then it was Jr, Fast Fred and Smitty 1,2,3 for 3 laps while Worpex was struggling. Fast Fred took laps 8 and 9 and looked like he would win but was passed by Gspeed2 setting up overtime. Fast Fred took lap 11 but was unable to repeat as TLD took the lead and repeated on lap 13 for the win. Worpex was 2nd and Fred 3rd. Smitty crashed again on lap 10 and wasn't a factor, finishing 7th. Worpex now has a 2-point lead over Smitty. TLD moves to 3rd, 15 points out of 1st. Congrats TLD and Worpex!

Leaders Struggle in Round 8. New Winner: The ability to replace non-producing cars is essential to prevent a runaway. Don't know why it isn't done in the other mail-in races. Fast Fred's starting car was in last place by round 5. His replacement car flirted with the lead in Round 6, almost won round 7, and won today's event. Replacement cars usually start at or near the front due to low points and can dominate a race if they are a strong car. Fred didn't exactly dominate, leading the first two laps before crashing to eighth. But by lap 8 he was 2nd and led the final 2 for the win. The 2 points leaders Smitty and Worpex floundered around the front 3rd for much of the race with Worpex taking lap 5 and Smitty lap 8. But they got caught up in various pileups and could not hold on. The top six were: Fred, Goolz Jr., Gspeed2, TLD, Smitty, and Worpex. Worpex holds a 1-point lead over Smitty with 2 rounds left. Only Worpex, Smitty, TLD and Gspeed1 have a mathematical chance at the championship. Fred's win moves him to 7th in points.
First call for entries for Summer race: Will start in 3 weeks. Some cars need to be replaced. The cars that are not winning is not due to lack of speed! They just don't handle. This is not a drag strip! You can also send cars for a family member or friend. Would be nice to have a B class. Also thinking about an "open wheel" class, run separately. Indy, F1, sprint, midget, jalopies, scratch-built. They usually work well on this track; Just don't like to mix with full-bodied cars. Address is: Gravitywerx, 4513 Feldspar Rd Middletown MD 21769.
