Overview

It can be tough jumping into diecast racing and facing a bunch of grizzled veterans...so this series is a for everyone else. The rookies.

Are you a rookie? That's up to you...but you know if you feel like one or not. If you don't have many races under your belt, or even if you just haven't done a lot of modding before, you should enter. Maybe you're mostly a stock racer...cool (me too)...but now here's your chance to branch out, try something new, and feel like you're on a level playing field.

You can be a racing veteran but not a modding veteran. This is a modified-only race, so people new to modding are asked to enter, even if you have 100 stock races to your credit.

But if you're familiar with the racing scene and are an old hat when it comes to replacing axles, sanding wheels, and adding weight...we ask that you sit this one out. Just relax and watch to see who the next contenders will be.

I also hope to do an entry preview video showing off the mods in all their glory.

Rules & restrictions

This race will be capped at 12 entries. Please claim spots by leaving a comment.

  • Modified entries only
  • Must be a new build, meaning the car has never been raced before
  • Must be a car YOU have made, not one you've won or had built for you
  • Limit 1 entry per racer. No limit per household.
  • All brands and builds welcome. If it rolls, it races.
  • 57g maximum weight
  • 3.25in. long x 2in. tall x 1.25in. wide
  • No restrictions on wheels or axles
  • Dry lubes only

Redline Derby t-shirt + Any non-returning entries

Track

All raceing will happen on the Redline Derby Speedway track.

Race format and scoring

This race will be a round robin format and point series taking place over several days/weeks. No bracket. Every car will race every other car throughout the series with each win earning points. The racer with the most points at the end will be the first Rookie Rally Champion.

To keep things time manageable, each match-up per round will be one-and-done, not 2-in-a-row. But the cars will switch lanes per round.

We'll keep it simple and have 1 point per win.

Racers will be rewarded through 3rd place. It cases of ties, one-off races will be held.

Penalties/DNF

Cars are given a grace of 1g over the stated weight limit to account for variance in scales.

If a car fails to meet any of the restrictions listed above, the car will not qualify for prizes. Offending cars will still race. The prize will go to the runner-up in the case of penalty car winning.

Cars that fail to run or fit on the track, or that happen to break during racing, will forfeit their matches. Cars that arrive broken will attempt to be minimally repaired before the tournament. Cars that break during the tournament will not be repaired or replaced.

Please, if you or others in your home plan on entering, leave a comment with an expected number of entries.

I capped this at 12 cars to keep the round robin manageable, but if interest is higher then I'll try to make adjustments to accomodate more.

RLD members can hit me up for some advice if anyone would like...have fun with it!!!

I only have a handful of races under my belt, so I'm definitely a rookie. Please mark me down for a spot!

I'll see how the turnout is before I join since I'm not a rookie, but I almost never join mod races. I have a bunch of modding supplies on order so for the first time since the 2012 chevelle cup i'll actually be able to mod a car to send!

  • You're not a racing rookie but if you've only done a few mod races, then you'd qualify to enter. Hope you do. — redlinederby

can you bump the g's up by 2 bc I have a 57g car ready

  • Using the car Red Pill Racing built for you wouldn't be in the spirit of the event...Red Pill is a veteran builder...nice try though Grasshopper — LeagueofSpeed
  • a different car — SavageSpeeder
  • It can be 57g, not a big deal. Although you also bring up a point that I should have added...new builds only. Meaning the car has never raced before. — redlinederby
  • What, no 200g limit?! :-D — SinisterGrackle

Plan on sending this bad boy. It's not fully finished, but good enough for pictures anyway. I'm having some issues getting it to stay together and I might add some weight.

  • Nice! Did you add the blue? Great color. — redlinederby
  • Yep! It was a black gold metal speed testarossa... But it was a dud, so it needed new wheels. It's much faster with FTEs! — WorpeX
  • Drool!!!!! Did you tap the posts and try to screw it together. Been having fantastic luck lately doing so. Really helpful in the test/tune phases Im finding. — Mattman213
  • Yeah, I tried tapping the holes and screwing it together. Its what I've been doing lately with success. Unfortunately on this build the screw head wasn't large enough so I need to find a washer which is small enough... Have some in the mail hoping they work! — WorpeX
  • AH yes, Im there with a car Im working on as well actually. I need slightly longer screws and some tiiiiiny washers lol. Good luck! — Mattman213
  • Yikes, this thing is not very fast haha I hate FTE2s but thats all I have! — WorpeX
