On the bench
Latest in progress is a restomod of a bubble gunner hot wheels.
turning a '70 honda into a '80's yugo

- A guy walks into a auto parts store and says I'd like a gas cap for my Yugo. The guy behind the counter says ok sounds like a fair trade. — Sunshine_City_Garage
- lol — dr_dodge
- Very cool — Baddad
Well yesterday was one spectacular airbrushing disaster after another. But out of that wreckage I at least got my very first candy paint job. Here is a 69 barracuda in tequila gold
- That isn't a '69 Plymouth, it is a '70. — BadWoolRacing
- Nice work, good color — alva1370
- nice (and bad wolf is correct — dr_dodge
- Well laa-dee-dah. 1969 or 1970 … I was a freshman in high school and it was a long time ago. — AbbyNormal
Back on March 7th I posted about some cutting boards I had drilled/inserted screws into in order to use as stands for holding castings as I rattle can paint. I still wasn't satisfied with their performance so I added another enhancement and tried it out today. The addition of the flexible dual alligator clips really gives me more versatility. Just knocked out ten primered cars.
- That’s pretty sweet. However, 10 cars on the bench would blow my little mind. — AbbyNormal
- Historically my biggest obstacle to prepping a car for a race is the painting process, it was normally my last step. This didn't give me enough time to allow the paints to cure. Because I use rattle can I have some early cars where I left finger prints or other impressions in the paint before it fully hardened. I decided to get proactive and create a bunch of cars that have been stripped, painted, and rivet posts threaded. Now the paint is allowed to cure without a deadline and I have a "speed shop" full of cosmestically prepared cars to pick from for any race I'd like to enter. The chassis/axle work is next and then they will sit in a case. When a race is posted that I have an entry ready for, just add weight and viola, race car! None of these cars have a destination yet which is nice as I don't feel the pressure of a deadline like I normally do when prepping an entry. — BadWoolRacing
- that is a good idea, I have the same problem — dr_dodge
Batman / Batmobile Trigger Warning !
The video below contains explicit video of batmobiles with badass color shifting paint jobs. Remember to fasten your bat safety belts before clicking the link below. This will be your only warning.
- Pretty wicked, your airbrushing is coming along nicely! — BadWoolRacing
- Setting up an airbrush booth is on my ToDo list in the garage this summer. I started a much desired reorg/overhaul of space in there lately. I'm looking forward to getting more use out of the space for my hobbies, diecast racing included. — BadWoolRacing
- Hey thanks BadWool, airbrushing is really a lot of fun but there is a fair learning curve in mixing paints - thinners - additives. I’ve had as many disasters as successes. I got these paints mixed right and I boosted pressure up to 30psi to help push out all the reflective particles. Normally I’m working at 22psi. — AbbyNormal
- holy color change batman! — dr_dodge
- nice — dr_dodge
- I also agree - looking good. Thought you had it sitting on a couple doobies. — AbbyNormal
Ive put diecast on the back burner for a few months and the feeling of "function guilt" began to pester my thoughts. So in a late night attempt to get something done I wasted some brass tubing and polished axle because I didn't judge my glue set up time. It was insanely fast. I'm wondering if contact cleaner is possibly a gorilla glue catalyst. Currently I find myself struggling with finishing anything productive, like a track or well functioning custom.
- I'm working on a no-glue tubed axle method... ruined more good stuff with glue layups. — Stoopid_Fish_Racing
- I would be interested in no glue tube axle method — Sunshine_City_Garage
Working on the shop tow truck..
- That’s a spectacular casting. And your livery is, as usual, great. Do you have two more of those wheels? It’d be even better as a dually. — Ruckus_Racing
- looks good! — Stoopid_Fish_Racing
- Hey Ruckus, I do agree that it would look great as a dualie, but it has the old thick axles that cannot be removed. If memory serves, that is a 1965 lesney matchbox dodge wrecker. — Sunshine_City_Garage

- Thanks stoopid fish, that looks doable! — Sunshine_City_Garage
- no problem! There are a few other good ones that discuss replacing that type of axle... plenty of guys doing it! — Stoopid_Fish_Racing

Finally finished my Hi Roller II for Jungle Falls. Chopped, dropped, extra large wheels, and the axles moved all the way fore and aft.
