What's on the bench?

I've been working on this Evo for Portillo Entertainment's Rallycross Raceoff 2.0 recently. I got it stuffed full of lead right to the weight limit!

Working on this Chevelle for Pikes Peak Muscle Rally.... before I even ran it on the machine it broke the record (unofficially) at PCIR.... I think I found the one!!

  • Neat! Looks like a smoker! — ManiacMotorsports
  • I think it’s too fast for my track, on the 5th run it ran a mistake free lap and left my fast cop car in the dust… will the dynamometer make it break 7.0 s?? :) — G_ForceRacing
  • Pretty car — alva1370

Ever since that post about the stockcar with the Royal Purple sponsor I've been trying to find a decent vector file of their logo. I finally did a screen shot of one I liked and had it vectorized which gave me the black outlines. I then hand painted the colors in. I've never used the stuff but its been around for a long while so it must be an effective product. But I've always enjoyed their going up against the top dogs like Mobil - Castro - Valvoline. Here's my final take

  • cool, me too.... I like Wolfs Head Motor Oil 'cuz it uses my team colors ;) — G_ForceRacing

Got a matchbox 41 Plymouth coupe on the bench. Got some awesome color shifting paints on it and am putting some decals down. I find the whole decal thing to be a little stressful to be quite honest and quite time-consuming. We'll see how it turns out sometime tomorrow.

  • Hey Doc - I’ve been using my rigged up dehydrator to speed dry decals in a few hours. — AbbyNormal
  • Looking good so far. I love that casting. — johnson9195

Sometimes no matter how hard you try to rush and screw things up everything comes together at the end. If my luck continues, I'll have the pikes Peak car ready in a week.

so I sort of randomly chose two castings one of the Ford GT 40s and a Mitsubishi 3000 GT. And the goal was to paint them with a silver over white paint job and do all of that with just the airbrush.  as I have been transitioning from rattle can to airbrush. I've been doing what I call hybrid painting. Which is part rattle can and part airbrush so this would be the first time I would do the entire enchilada with the airbrush.

and as the pics show below, I am really pleased with how it came out, and I refined my airbrush approach and skills along the way. And if you look closely this silvery paint, water-based acrylic is really made up of super fine aluminum particles. That's why the paint color is called aluminum. So just super happy and plan to do a lot more with the airbrush.

  • Doc, you are certainly a mad man on a mission. Just the thought of all that teeny tiny wiring makes my fingers quiver. — AbbyNormal

Well I took the weekend off as I finish my recoup from surgery. So I headed to the work bench and knocked out 6 prototype racing cars. Some of these cars had been half done for months so I rounded up all the parts - fired the paint booth up - and BIM / BAM

I wanted to work with airbrush pearlescent paints - so I picked two similar castings an early 60's El Camino and a 1970 Ranchero. I decided to go ahead and mod them for drags on my local track so its plastic wheels instead of rubber tires.

  • Nice work! — CutRock_R_Marc_D
  • Sweet! — ManiacMotorsports
  • love 'em — dr_dodge
  • Thanks everyone - the past few paint projects have come out very well. I’m slowly getting the feel for airbrush vs rattle can. Creativity is just about unlimited once you get the feel for it. — AbbyNormal
  • Thought I would quickly mention that the blacked out windows in these vehicles was simply done by applying a black sharpie to the inside of the windows. I saw that on a YouTube video and it really works pretty slick and if you’re looking for that look, it’s easier to do. — AbbyNormal
  • they are amazing! — dr_dodge
  • Back at you Dr — AbbyNormal
  • (Hides, have had an air brush for a while, yet to use it. Great to see your work) — CutRock_R_Marc_D
  • Marc unleash the airbrush and set yourself free — AbbyNormal
  • Outstanding work! — Rabid_Badger_Racing

Working on the Mustang and Shelby for the Mustang Memorial 2025 and the Bently just for fun.

Yes, that is an old mower balde, the magnets on the clips stick to it really well.

  • look nice — dr_dodge
  • Thanks Doc, waiting on decals from RustBelt to finish them up. — JBlotner42
